It is located at the Monte da Guia hill, in the parish of Angústias. Monte da Guia is the result of a submarine eruption (tuff cone) with 11 000 years old and is classified as Protected Landscape Area because of its geologic formation, endemic fauna and flora. It has an altitude of 145 metres and is formed by two craters opened to the sea, called Caldeirinhas do Inferno or simply, Caldeirinhas. These craters have a length of 500 metres and a maximum width of 250 metres. Here you can find Nossa Senhora da Guia Chapel, the patron of fishermen and sailors. It is possible to enjoy a panoramic view over Porto Pim Bay and the entire town of Horta, Espalamaca, Pico, São Jorge and all the coastal area, as far as Morro de Castelo Branco. You can also see Monte Queimado, with an altitude of 86 metres, and together with Monte da Guia, they form a SCI (Site of Community Interest).
